About Us

The 3rd Aberystywth Scout Group is the local Scout Group for the town centre of Aberystwyth in the county of Ceredigion in Wales.
We consist of 3 sections: Beavers for 6 to 8 year olds (Section leader Jane Glascoed) , Cubs for 8 to 10½ (Section leader Emma Seymour) and Scouts for 10½ to 14 year olds (Section leader Alice Davis). There is some flexibility in the age to move between sections to suit individual circumstances. All sections are open to members of either gender. Each section meets separately, although some activities are arranged for more than 1 section or for the whole group. The Group leader is Nic Shilton.
We have close linkage with the Dionysus Explorer Scout Unit for 14 to 18 year olds, who meet in our den on Mondays (7:30pm to 9:30pm).
The Group has an Executive Committee, which is predominately made up of parents/carers and friends of the group. The Executive Committee make decisions and carry out administrative tasks to ensure that the best quality Scouting can be delivered to young people in the Group. The Chairperson of the Executive Committee is Rebecca Kularatne.

The Purpose of ScoutingScouting exists to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

The Values of Scouting

As Scouts we are guided by these values:

Integrity
We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal.
Respect
We have self-respect and respect for others.
Care
We support others and take care of the world in which we live.
Belief
We explore our faiths, beliefs and attitudes.
Cooperation
We make a positive difference; we cooperate with others and make friends.

The Scout Method

Scouting takes place when young people, in partnership with adults, work together based on the values of Scouting and:

  • enjoy what they are doing and have fun;
  • take part in activities indoors and outdoors;
  • learn by doing;
  • share in spiritual reflection;
  • take responsibility and make choices;
  • undertake new and challenging activities; and
  • make and live by their Promise.
